Google Nexus 6 won’t be from LG: A Company executive reveals

This piece of news, comes totally out of the blue, and will send shockwaves across LG Nexus 4 and 5 users .

LG’s Communications Director Ken Hong, has said that LG will not be manufacturing the Google Nexus 6.

Hong says Google should have approached LG by now, if  the company was to manufacture the Nexus 6. This was the case with the Nexus 5, and since that hasn’t happened, the only assumption that we can jump onto is it will be manufactured by another OEM.

Hong, however has no qualms over another manufacturer making the Nexus 6.

“If you can develop a Google phone that gives credibility. But money you earn is not easy, and you become too dependent on Google.” Hong said, adding a word about he supply shortage of the Nexus 5, when it was launched. “Google determines how many phones are to be made, and we do that. If it is stated that LG produces too few Nexus phones, the media then is simply incorrect. We get asked, we deliver.”

So, with LG out of the question, the fingers point out to HTC. Why not Samsung? you ask. The South Korean manufacturer, focuses on expanding it’s own range of phones and has 2 flagship devices to sell, the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4, with the latter expected to be launched soon. So, it is unlikely that they will manufacture a Nexus phone, which will hinder the sales of the Note 4, or the already dwindling sales of the Galaxy S5.

One more reasoning could be made here why Samsung won’t be manufacturing the Nexus 6. Google chose to make two phones with each OEM. Let’s take a look at the previous OEMs who manufactured Nexus devices for Google.

  • Nexus One – HTC
  • Nexus S – Samsung
  • Galaxy Nexus – Samsung
  • Nexus 4 – LG
  • Nexus 5 – LG

So Samsung has 2, and LG has two. HTC’s turn for a second one, maybe?

Also, HTC are rumored to be manufacturing a Nexus 8 tablet for Google, so chances are that the Google Nexus 6 could be from HTC. However, Google has always obtained the Nexus tablets and phones from different manufacturers, every year.

It is possible that Google will announce the Nexus 6 next week, during the I/O developer conference in San Francisco, California.
