Google Translate is perhaps one of their most used service, i.e next to their search engine and mail services of course.
Google Translate Android
Sure, it may not be the best translator, hey its free and it works reasonably well. And guess what, the Android app just got better.
The latest update for the Google Translate app now allows you to use it without a nwt work connection. You read it right, you can use it offline. Even better, this function will work on all devices running Gingerbread and above. And if you are in China, Japan or Korea, you can translate the vertical text in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean by using your camera.

It can’t get cooler than this. But you never know.

Here is the list of the app’s official features:

Translate text and speech between more than 60 languages
Listen to your translations spoken aloud
Input using your voice, handwriting, and camera
Save your favorite translations for quick, offline access
View dictionary results for single words or phrases
Translate without a network connection with our offline language packages
(Camera input and offline translation are available for Android 2.3 and above.)

The list of supported languages are:

Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Basque, Belarusian, Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Esperanto, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, Galician, Georgian, German, Greek, Gujarati, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Lao, Latin, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Maltese, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese, Welsh, Yiddish

Quite a bit of languages there. Phew

You can download the Google Translate app from the widget below.

So the next time you are somewhere without a network connection and need help with a foreign language, pop up the app and thank Google.
