If you own a LG P500 Optimus and love to flash custom ROMs on it, you may be amazed at the developers support for this device bringing every new version of Android to this old device. Every time a new ROM is released for LG P500, its users think that it is going to be the last Android update they will be getting using the custom ROMs by developers. But every time we are proven wrong.
XDa developers Bytecode has released an Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) Build for LG P500 running Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean, the latest Android version available. The ROM looks perfect and works well except few bugs like Live wallpapers not working and Bluetooth turns on, but not off (P500 CM10.1 bug). Lets have a look how you can install or Flash this ROM on your device.
Files Needed
If you find the download links to be broken, visit the XDA Forum Source thread link at the bottom of this post to get new working links.
Installation
Save the downloaded files on SD Card’s main folder for easy access or navigation while flashing since the recovery mode is tough to navigate with hard keys.
- Boot phone into recovery Mode using existing ROM option (often available with the power button in most custom ROMs) using Power button (if it has) or by holding VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER keys while the phone is powered off.
- In recovery mode, use Volume rocker keys at right side of phone to scroll up and down. You need to clear few settings and wipe Cache before you can flash the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 AOKP ROM on phone.
- Clear user Data/factory reset>> Clear/wipe Cache >> clear Dalvik Cache. Dalvik cache option is available under advance options in recovery mode.
- After this choose install zip from SDcard option.
- Select the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 AOKP ROM (the same file that you just downloaded above) to flash. It will begin to install.
- Once installed press the back button few times to go back to the main screen of Recovery. Select reboot system now.
- To install Google Apps, you need to reboot again and flash the Google Apps zip file.
My Experience with this ROM
Stablity
The ROM was pretty stable for me. I didn’t experienced any reboots or any other stability issues while testing. The only issue that I faced was settings were getting crashed when you try to change some settings. Except the settings getting force closed or crashed, nothing else crashed.
Videos
The videos on this ROM worked flawlessly and I was quite surprised as running Videos on custom ROMs with Android Ice Cream sandwich was a major issue and many users stayed away from upgrading due to the video issue.
Battery Life
It looks like we need to wait for some more time, before the battery life with this ROM improves. The battery lasted not even for 24 hours with less than average use of the phone. I am not sure what happened, but suddenly I found that the Phone battery got drained. Hopefully, future build will fix this issue.
