The Beta version of MediaMonkey got another update, which has brought some important features.

MediaMonkey Beta Android

With the steady flow of updates, it may not be long before the stable version comes out.In case you haven’t heard of MediaMonkey before, it is a popular music and video player and media manager developed by Ventis Media for Windows and they launched an Android version last year.

Here is a list of the app’s features:

Content Navigation for Music, Audiobooks, Podcasts, Video, …
Navigation by various subcategories (e.g. by Artist, Album, Composer, Genre, Playlist
Playback (relies on native Android codecs), with replay gain (volume leveling), bookmarks, Lock screen support
UPnP/DLNA client with download manager
Contextual functions to manage single/multiple files (e.g. play, queue, playlist management, delete, use as ringtone, share, edit)
Playlist management with hierarchy
Now Playing views: Individual (swipeable UI for in-car use) / Tracklist
Wireless sync with MediaMonkey for Windows
etc…

The latest version brings folder navigation. this is useful if you have your music sorted out in various folders.

Here is the full change-log for the update:

Added navigation by folder
Added display of first letter while scrolling
Improved navigation performance
Fixes (various) to the UPnP download manager
Fixed crash when navigating to Now Playing

I have been using the app for a while and I am not sure if it is a placebo effect, but I find it to be very smooth since the update. I haven’t noticed the display of the first letter while scrolling lists, though.

You can download MediaMonkey Beta for free from the widget below.

The app can play videos too, but the playback may depend on your device’s capability.
