Upcoming Android 4.3 for Google Nexus 4 device got leaked yesterday in the form of a System dump for Nexus 4. And after the System dump was available, Developers at XDA were quick enough to bring out a flashable zip for the same. Two flashable zip files (first being the normal zip and the second being the Deodex one) were released by XDA developer gmillz and is available for download at this xda post.

Android 4.3 Nexus 4

The process of installing or flashing the zip file of Android 4.3 for Nexus 4 is similar to flashing any custom ROM. We preferred to use the Deodex zip file to flash on our Nexus 4.

Install leaked Android 4.3 on Nexus 4

Download the flashable zip file from the XDA link as given above in this post. Save the zip file on Nexus 4 device folders like the Download folder.

  1. The device must be rooted and you must have a Recovery like Clockworkmod or TWRP installed on your Nexus device to boot into recovery Mode.
  2. Boot in recovery mode. You need to clear few settings before you can flash to your phone to the new ROM.
  3. Clear user Data/factory reset>> Clear/wipe Cache >> clear Dalvik Cache. Dalvik cache option comes under advance options in recovery mode.
  4. After this choose install zip from sdcard option.
  5. Select the ROM zip file from the Phone memory( that you saved after downloading) to install Android 4.3. Select it and it will begin to install.
  6. It wmay take few minutes maximum to finish install. After that press the back button few times to go back to the main screen of Recovery.Choose reboot system now.
  7. That’s all. Your Nexus 4 is now rocking Android 4.3.

Keep in mind that this flash will result in “no-root” mode of Nexus 4. You need to root it again to gain access to root only features and to install apps like Titanium Backup.

Root Nexus 4 with Android 4.3

Chainfire has release a beta tool which can root Nexus 4 with Android 4.3. You can find the tool in a flashable zip form here. Just Flash the zip from Recovery and your device will be rooted again.

Also, during our install of Android 4.3, Titanium Backup even though installed perfectly but were unable to restore apps and data from the old titanium backups. We are still getting “parse error” while trying to restore apps and data associated with this titanium backup. Hence, if you can’t live with this restore option, you should stay away from flashing  this.
