Carbon for Android hits Twitter API token limit

Another Twitter app has hit the token limit set by Twitter’s API.

Carbon for Twitter

Carbon for Android, is the second Android app which has been hit by this absurd rule, after Falcon Pro did so last year.

For the unaware readers, Twitter’s API has a certain limit of user tokens for apps that were released after they released version 1.1 of their API.

So what does this mean? Well basically, new users cannot login using the app. This rule only applies to apps which were released after the API version 1.1 came out, meaning older applications are not affected by this. Twitter implied this rule to limit the number of 3rd party apps which offer the same core experience as their own app.

The developer of the app, M.Saleh Esmaeili took to Google+ to inform users of Carbon for Android.

He also said that he will not be implying a custom key login method, similar to what Joaquim Verges, the developer of Falcon Pro did.

This is what he said about the future of Carbon for Android.

I’ll keep the planned updates coming. I’ll update app’s description and warn users who download it that only those who had tokens can use it. And NO! I won’t make a way for custom API keys, that’s just going around the problem, and we don’t cut corners when it comes to that.

If you have used the Carbon for Android app earlier, and are no longer using it, you can revoke access to it to release your token.
