We already know that ASUS Zenwatch is expected to be unveiled at IFA 2014 and teased by ASUS itself in a video sometime back. Before that video, we also saw a sketch for the ASUS Zenwatch being teased. But, even after those teasers. we still got no idea of hardware or other technical specifications of the device. The only thing that we know about is, how the smartwatch will look like.
Now, Taiwanese publication Focus Taiwan reports that the CEO of Asus Jerry Shen has reportedly said in a media briefing that the upcoming ASUS ZenWatch will be priced at sub $200 and will be powered by Android Wear. It also reports that English-enabled voice recognition will be supported on the device which is expected to go on sale in October.
ASUS is perhaps trying to tap the entry level customers of Smartwatches who are yet shying from buying because of the high price of smartwatches like the Samsung Gear Live currently priced at $199 and the LG G Watch at $229. Apart from high prices, Smartwatches are still in evolution phase and unless they start offering something unique and useful to the customers, it won’t take off in consumer market.
IN coming weeks, the other manufacturers are also unveiling their smartwatches including the G Watch R & the Moto 360 and we would see what they have to offer compared to existing devices as just bumping the specifications won’t help. We will keep you updated as and when it happens.
