Finally Android 5.0 Lollipop has started to roll out for most Nexus devices starting today. The announcement was made by the Official Android twitter account. This announcement comes after Motorola became the first OEM to roll out Lollipop to Moto G (2nd Gen) much before Google did that for Nexus devices.

Most of you must be already aware that the following Nexus devices will be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update:

  • Nexus 4,
  • Nexus 5,
  • Nexus 7 (2012 & 2013) &
  • Nexus 10

The Galaxy Nexus will not get an official Android 5.0 update.

But here is a small catch. The OTA update from Android 4.4.4 has started rolling out today for the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012 & 2013 Wifi only) and Nexus 10, but at this time there is no time estimate announced about the update for the Nexus 4 and LTE version of the Nexus 7. Hopefully that will arrive too soon.

As the update is rolled out in phases, hence it may take up to three weeks to reach everyone.

Also, if you are using the Developer Preview version on your device, you won’t get the OTA update. You will have to flash the factory image of Android 4.4.4 and then wait for the OTA or install the factory image of Android 5.0 once it is available to the public.

Android 5.0 Lollipop Factory images for Nexus 5 are out already

Google has already made available the Android 5.0 Lollipop factory images on Google servers. If you are impatient enough to give it a try, you can download factory images from here.
