A few weeks ago, we reported that Android 5.1 Lollipop was spotted on an Android One phone.

It was later confirmed by Spice Mobiles, who launched their phone as the Nexian Journey One in Indonesia.

Rumour had it that the next iteration of Android would be available first to Android One phones, followed soon by Nexus devices. But there was no conclusive proof of it, until now.

A Nexus 5 running on Android 5.1 has been spotted at benchmarking website, Geekbench.

Android 5.0 Lollipop has drawn a lot of flak from fans who encountered several bugs including memory leaks which caused lags, WiFi issues and some bugs in security. OEMs also blamed the delays in rolling out updates for their devices, because Lollipop is “buggy” and it takes time to fix them. So, it is possible that Google may have chosen the Android One portfolio to test Android 5.1 Lollipop, because the devices are only available in a few Asian markets.
