Cyanogen has announced that it plans to replace the Gmail App on its custom ROM, Cyanogenmod.
The next update for CM 12, will be shipped with a different email app called Boxer.
It is a third party email app, which supports all major email providers, and supports IMAP and POP 3. The good news is the integrated version of Boxer on CM 12, will come with all premium features enabled for free. This includes support for Exchange, multiple accounts, quick replies, and several customization options.
The update for CM 12 with Boxer will roll out to the global One Plus One and Micromax Yu Yureka soon.
Cyanogen is clearly moving forward with its plan to move away from Google, and also plans to build its own version of Android that is completely devoid of Google’s services. Whether fans would use such an OS is questionable. What if their “Open OS” doesn’t have access to the Play Store, and the apps you paid for? Would you still use it?
