Lava Mobiles has just announced two new entry-level smartphone models in their Iris Fuel series. The two smartphones launched today are Iris Fuel 10 and Iris Fuel 25, both being powered by a whopping 3000 mAh battery. In terms of pricing, Iris Fuel 10 & Iris Fuel 25 are priced at Rs. 6,541 & Rs. 5,666 respectively.
Iris Fuel 10 sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480 x 854 pixels) IPS display with a pixel density of 217 ppi and is powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor with 1GB of RAM. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat as operating system. Lava does promise a guaranteed Android 5.0 Lollipop update, though we are not sure when it will arrive. In terms of storage, it comes with 8 GB internal storage with micro SD support (up to 32 GB). It comes with a 5-megapixel rear autofocus camera with a BSI+ sensor & LED flash and 2-megapixel front camera. It supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro-USB, and 3G.
Whereas Iris Fuel 25 comes with a 5-inch TFT display and is powered by 1.2 GHz Mediatek dual-core processor with 512MB RAM. It comes with 4GB of built-in storage with microSD card support (up to 32GB). In terms of camera, it sports a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera. It supports 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Micro-USB option.
Considering that there is some tough competition in this entry-level range, the devices with just 512 MB of RAM is not good enough to beat top contenders in this price segment which at the moment is dominated by devices like Redmi 1s, Moto E, Asus Zenfone 4 etc. The battery capacity though may attract consumers who want a longer battery life, but even that depends on many factors and not just on the capacity.
