Facebook Lite is now available in India.
The light-weight app, was launched in January 2015, for emerging markets where 2G is popular.
Facebook Lite uses less data, and the app itself is less than 500kb in size. Unlike its bigger brother, the original Facebook app, the Lite version includes native support for Facebook Chat. The app also displays notifications for Likes and Status Updates.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend using the Lite app as its just a mobile website of Facebook. You are better off using it from your mobile’s browser.
