The OnePlus 2 boasts some top of the line technical specifications, and it is accompanied by an affordable price tag.
That is great news, but unfortunately there are a few dampeners as well.
For starters, the OnePlus 2 will be sold exclusively via Amazon India with an invite system. The invite system, unlike the previous One, is touted to be an improved model, especially considering that the company has a larger inventory now.
The Amazon India exclusivity may not be good news for those looking to exchange their old phones, as the online retailer does not support any exchange schemes. Flipkart on the other hand does offer discount on exchange for most phones, and would have been a more sensible option.
In an interview with Business Today, Vikas Agarwal, the General Manager of OnePlus India, revealed that there will not be any buy-back offer for OnePlus One users who wish to upgrade to the OnePlus 2. This is what he said,
No. It is not feasible for us to launch any such offer at the moment.
Considering that the OnePlus 2has been priced almost at the same price of the One, it is likely that OnePlus may not make a profit with the buy back offer. On a side note, Agarwal has revealed that the OnePlus One will be getting a price cut in India soon.
Agarwal also played down rumors of the heating issue in the OnePlus 2, stating the company worked closely with Qualcomm, and that the Oxygen OS which the phone runs, has been optimised to ensure that there are no thermal issues with the Snapdragon 810 chipset. This may not be good news for those looking to flash CyanogenMod or other ROMs on the phone.
