Android developers can now sell their apps and games for just Rs.10 in India

Android apps and games may soon be available for cheaper prices in India, as Google has now made a major change to its pricing policy in the Country.

Google-Play-Minimum-Price-India-10-Rupees

The Google Play Store, now allows Android developers to sell their digital goods, for just Rs.10 in India.

While this seems like a fairy tale at first glance, it requires developers to actually lower the price to the said number. Prior to this change, the minimum allowed selling price on the Indian Google Play Store, was around Rs.50, which is approximately less than a US Dollar.

The current minimum price, Rs. 10, translates to approximately 16 cents.

Is this going to boost sales in India?

Yes and no.

Yes, because Google recently launched Gift Cards in India, and even those are only available in select stores in 7 cities. And credit card users may now be more likely to buy apps at such low prices.

No, because the majority of Indians use a Debit Card, which because of RBI’s requirement of 2-step authentication (3D secure, OTP), do not work on Google Wallet, PayPal, and other International Websites etc. So, unless Google comes up with a way to allow Debit card users to purchase apps/games, even setting 10 Rs as the Google Play minimum price in India is unlikely to be a hit.
