No price cut for the OnePlus One, says Carl Pei

Well, I’m not sure how to break this news to you, as many of you may have been waiting for a price cut for the OnePlus One.

OnePlus One

Brace yourself for disappointment, it’s not happening.

This what OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, told The Indian Express, in an email interview:

OnePlus One will keep being sold for a few months as OnePlus 2 sales kick off. The two products are quite different, both great in their own right. There’s no planned OnePlus One price cut. We see price cuts as slapping our early customers in the face, and will only resort to it when we have no other choice.
Last week, we came across a report, where Vikas Agarwal, said that the company is planning to cut the price of the OnePlus One, as soon as the OnePlus 2 was available.  Frankly, that would make perfect sense, and add to that the fact that the OnePlus One was launched well over a year ago, and that it is powered by a slightly outdated hardware, it isn’t logical to sell it at its launch price.

While the OnePlus One is being sold for just $249 (approx Rs. 16,000) and $298 (approx Rs. 19,000) for the 16GB and 64GB variants in other Countries, the phones are retailing for Rs. 18,998 and Rs. 21,998 in India. OnePlus has had a poor service record in India, and the latest move to continue selling the OnePlus One at its launch price, only shows how miserably the company has failed to analyse the Indian market.

Are we looking at another “Samsung Galaxy S5” scenario, which severely hampered the sales numbers of the South Korean electronics giant?. At least Samsung had the Note 4 to save it’s face, and bounced back superbly with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.I am not sure if OnePlus can pull this one off.

What’s more, OnePlus had initially claimed in a Reddit AMAA, that the One would be sold alongside the Two. But now Pei says that the One will be sold for “a few months”, probably because the OnePlus Two, has been drawing flak for thermal issues surrounding the Snapdragon 810 v2.1, which the company claims runs much cooler than the original chipsets. Of course, an underclocked processor will run cooler.

So, how do you feel about OnePlus not slashing the price of the One? Will this force you to buy the OnePlus 2? Drop a comment below and share your thoughts with us.
