Google has officially announced that it has added Google Drive backup for WhatsApp Messenger.
This isn’t exactly a new feature, we reported about it being tested in previous versions, which was first spotted way back in April this year.
The cloud backup option will save your chat messages, images, videos to your Google Drive account, using which you can restore them should you switch devices.
How to backup WhatsApp messages and attachments to Google Drive:
Tap on the three dot menu in WhatsApp and select Settings
Now tap on the “Chats and Calls” option.
The “chat backup” option is where you will find the Google Drive backup. It’s not available yet, but here is a screenshot from a test version from April.
The Mountain View company says that, Google Drive backup for WhatsApp chat, images and videos will begin rolling out over the next few months.
On a side note, WhatApp 2.12.304 added support for custom notification settings and mute for each chat, allows you to mark chats as read or unread. You can now select a data saver option for WhatsApp calls from the settings menu as well. The update also adds language support for Urdu and Bengali.
