A couple of months ago, we reported that WhatsApp has added an option to backup chats, directly to Google Drive.
Google had announced that it will be rolling out the option after some months.
Today, when we opened WhatsApp on one of our phones, it displayed a screen which asked us to select the backup frequency, and also to choose which Google Drive to backup the chats too.
You will have to authenticate the app to use your Google account. Tap on done and it should be enabled. You can manually check for the option by tapping on WhatsApp’s Menu > Settings > Chats and calls > Chat Backup. It also has an option to include videos to be backed up as well.
The version which gave us this option is WhatsApp 2.12.386 which is available from the official website http://www.whatsapp.com/android/. It is slightly older than the current one, 2.12.391. But we tested that one too, and it works in the new app as well.
