Moto G and E aren’t being discontinued, Vibe and Moto will co-exist

Yesterday, we came across a report, which quoted a Lenovo official saying that the company will be disontinuing the Moto E and the Moto G budget phones.

A quick check at the source, which was in Chinese, did suggest the same, but it could have been a bad machine translation too.

It was announced recently that the Motorola brand would be discontinued, in favour of Moto by Lenovo. Adding fuel to the fire, was the fact that Lenovo has its own Vibe line up along with its “A” series budget devices. These may have been the reasons, why the story about Moto phones being discontinued could have been blown out of proportion.

In reality, it appears that Motorola will not be ending its budget phone line up after all.  The Verge reports that a Motorola official, confirmed to it by issuing the following statement:

Although we are simplifying the combined Motorola and [Lenovo] portfolio, we have no plans to retire Moto G, our most successful smartphone, or Moto E.

The official word suggests that we will be seeing both the Vibe and Moto series co-exist, except that there may be fewer devices, i.e. likely less variants of the phones. For example Moto G comes in three variants 1GB RAM/2GB RAM and Turbo, Moto E in 3G/4G variants, Moto X Play/Style etc.

There is the possibility that only one variant of each phone could be released in the future.
