It appears that rumours about Google launching two Nexus devices again this year, could be true. Last year, the Mountain View company launched the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P.
(LG Nexus 5X)
In 2016, Google is reported to partner with HTC, for two Nexus phones. And the specifications of the lower end variant of the two has been leaked by Android Police.
The phone, reportedly called the HTC Sailfish Nexus, is touted to be the replacement for the LG Nexus 5X. So it will be a power packed mid ranger again. And just FYI, Sailfish is just a codename similar to Shamu (Nexus 6), Bullhead (Nexus 5X), continuing in Google’s fish oriented naming system. The higher end variant is supposedly called Marlin.
Let’s take a look at the specs of the HTC Sailfish Nexus. The phone will feature a 5.0-inch Full HD 1080p display with a pixel density of 440 PPI. It is powered by an unknown quad-core 2.0GHz 64-bit processor. This pretty much rules out the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 and the Snapdragon 652 processors as both are octa-core ones.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, however is a quad-core SoC, and it is possible that Google could be using it for the HTC Nexus. The rest of the specifications could be slightly lower, compared to the Marlin.
The HTC Nexus has 4GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage. It is unlikely that Google will include a micro SD card slot on its phones this year either. It is unclear if higher storage variants of the Sailfish Nexus will be available.
Disappointingly, the HTC Nexus will have only a 2770mAh battery, according to the alleged leak. The device will come with a rear facing fingerprint scanner, and a bottom facing USB Type C port like the Nexus 5X. The photography options on the Sailfish Nexus includes a 12 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front camera.
The phone will come with Bluetooth 4.2, an audio jack on the top, and bottom facing speakers.
