Samsung Galaxy Note 7 production temporarily suspended

Earlier today, we reported that AT&T and T-Mobile have halted the sales of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, after replacement phones were also reported to be prone to overheating, causing the devices to catch fire. And now it appears Samsung itself has suspended the production of the device, at least temporarily.

The fact that this is not merely a halt in the sales, but in the manufacturing itself, is something worrisome indeed. It is sad indeed, when one of the most highly anticipated phones of the year, is suffering from such a fate.

CNN reports that a person familiar with the matter, said that the production of the phone has been temporarily suspended. While the report does not mention whether Samsung is investigating the issues, South Korean news agency, Yonhap, quotes a Samsung official, whose words do shed a bit more light on the matter.

According to the official, the suspension of the production, is done to cooperate with consumer safety regulators from South Korea, the US and China. This also includes a Samsung plant in Vietnam, which was manufacturing the devices for global shipments. Earlier, Samsung had announced that it had stopped using a factory in Korea, responsible for producing the batteries, which had caused the devices to catch fire, or worse explode.

Samsung is yet to announce the manufacturing halt officially.
