During the launch event of the Nokia 7.1 last night, HMD Global mentioned something which will make their fans jump in joy. The Nokia Android Pie Update timeline has been announced.

Nokia Android Pie Update timeline announced

And here’s the list of devices which will get the update.

Nokia Android Pie Update Timeline

  • Nokia 6.1 – October 2018
  • Nokia 6.1 Plus  – October 2018
  • Nokia 7.1  – November 2018
  • Nokia 8 – November 2018
  • Nokia 8 Sirocco – November 2018

The company says the Snapdragon 6XX-series of devices will be getting the Android 9.0 Pie Update, the first. And the phones which are in line to get the Android Pie Update are the Nokia 6.1 and the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The two phones will get the new firmware in October 2018, i.e. this month.

The Nokia 7.1 which was announced yesterday, will get the Android Pie Update next, sometime next month, as mentioned during the launch event. The Nokia 8 and the Nokia 8 Sirocco will be updated to Android 9, in November 2018.

While the company has not announced the update timeline for its other devices, it did earlier mention on Twitter, that the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 will also be updated to Android Pie.

Hi, Android Pie will be available for the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8. Roll-out will be phased as usual to secure quality delivery. Nokia 7 Plus is part of the Android One program, which guarantees two years of software updates, including Pie.

— HMD (@HMDdevices) August 8, 2018

The Nokia 7 Plus has already been receiving the Android Pie Update, but that’s because it is an Android One device. Also, the phone was among the devices which had been part of the Android P Beta Program.

It is good to see Android OEMs updating their devices, or at least intending to provide the OTA, so soon after the new OS was announced. If more companies adopt this, OS version fragmentation in Android could become a thing of the past.
