Xiaomi has officially announced a Mi A2 price drop. The device is now more affordable.
So, why is this happening? Xiaomi says that it is part of the company’s 5th anniversary celebrations in India.
But let’s call a spade a spade, the Mi A2 is a flop. The device which was launched in August 2018, has a little over 7500 reviews on Amazon. That’s incredibly low, even by Xiaomi’s standards. In comparison, the Redmi Note 6 Pro which was announced in November has nearly 18,000 reviews on Flipkart.
The Mi A2 was actually launched for Rs. 16,999, but the price was later increased to Rs. 17,499. Add to this mix devices like the Realme 2 Pro, ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1, ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2, and it doesn’t work well for Xiaomi, hence the price cut.
Xiaomi Mi A2 price drop
The Mi A2 price drop which was announced today, brings the 4GB/64GB variant’s price tag to Rs. 13,999 after a discount of Rs. 3,500. The 6GB/128GB variant now costs Rs. 15,999 after a price drop of Rs. 4,500 from Rs. 20,500. The price cut is available across Mi.com, Amazon, Mi Home and other offline stores.
No Xiaomi Mi A2 price drop on Flipkart
There appears to be no Xiaomi Mi A2 price drop on Flipkart. In fact, in what seems to be a really odd marketing move, Flipkart seems to be promoting the Realme 2 Pro over the Xiaomi Mi A2. Just search for “Mi A2” on Flipkart and you will see a banner like the one below, which says “Looking for Mi A2? Check Realme 2 Pro from 13,990 | 16MP Front Camera”.
Perhaps Flipkart isn’t chummy with Xiaomi anymore.
Is it worth buying a Xiaomi Mi A2 ?
If you are a Xiaomi fan, or want an Android One device, you could go for the device. We are not judging.
Although some Nokia devices can also be an alternative, in our opinion the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 offers the best value for money thanks to a more modern design, a triple card system, and a massive battery. And it has a headphone jack, which the Mi A2 does not have.
