Samsung launches Exynos 7904 processor for mid-range phones, Galaxy M series to feature it

Samsung has launched a new chipset called the Exynos 7904. This is the processor that will be used in the Galaxy M series, which is set to be launched next week in India.

Speaking of which, the electronics giant has termed the SoC as tailored for India. The Exynos 7904 is built on a 14nm process, and comprises of 8 cores. The octa-cores are divided into 2 clusters, with 2 Cortex-A73 cores running at 1.8GHz, and 6 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.6GHz.

The ISP (image signal processor) of the processor supports a single camera resolution of 32MP, and triple cameras. The Galaxy M30 is rumoured to sport 3 cameras, while the Galaxy M20 and the Galaxy M10 will flaunt dual cameras. The new chipset is capable of recording Full HD videos at 120fps, Ultra HD at 30 fps, and will support Full HD+ displays. The Galaxy M series phones will sport Infinity U and Infinity V displays.

  • Process: 14nm
  • CPU Clock Speed: 1.8GHz
  • CPU Cores: 2 x Cortex-A73 cores + 6 Cortex-A53 cores
  • Camera: Up to 32MP single lens, Triple Cameras, FHD @120fps, UHD @30fps
  • Modem: LTE Cat.12, 3-CA, Up to 600 Mbps downlink

Truth to be told, the specifications of the new chipset does look a lot like that of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636. But the LTE Modem embedded in the Exynos 7904 supports Cat.12, 3-carrier aggregation and supports up to 600 Mbps downlink speed, which is twice that the Snapdragon modem is capable of.

The Galaxy M10, M20 and M30 will be priced affordably according to the latest rumour.
