OnePlus 7 Pro leaked prices suggest it will cost nearly as Samsung, Pixel flagships

OnePlus 7 Pro leaked prices indicate that the company’s upcoming devices will cost nearly as much as Samsung, Pixel flagship phones. Here we go again.

One Plus 7 Pro leaked prices

The phone which we see here from a previous leak is the OnePlus 7 Pro. The price of the 6GB/128GB base variant remains a mystery.

But according to Ishan Agarwal and Android Central, the OnePlus 7 Pro will retail for for €749 in Europe for the 8GB RAM/256GB storage variant. There will be a 12GB RAM variant also with and 256GB of storage which will carry a price tag of €819. The tipster says that the price will differ from region to region.

So, a direct conversion to Dollars or Rupees may not be accurate, but how else are we supposed to know the difference in the prices compared to the previous gen phones.

To recall, the OnePlus 6T which launched for €549 in Europe, was priced at $549 in the US and at Rs. 37,999. That’s about €494 and €485 respectively. Now assuming a similar €50-55 difference between the European and US/Indian variants, we could be looking at a price of $770 for the OnePlus 7 Pro 8GB RAM variant, or about Rs. 54,000. The OnePlus 7 Pro 12GB variant could similarly be priced at Rs. 60,000 or $850.

Our take on the OnePlus 7 Pro leaked prices

On the one hand, OnePlus is upgrading the device to a proper premium one, with a Quad HD+ display which has a 90Hz refresh rate. This was also sort of confirmed by Pete Lau, the company’s CEO, in a Tweet which said they had invested heavily in a display technology which costs about 3 times of other flagship phones. Should we really be shocked by the OnePlus 7 Pro leaked prices? Such tech will come at a premium price, quite literally.

But if you were an enthusiast, who once liked the company for making an affordable flagship phone, well you can’t say the same now. If you ask me, I’d say this has been the case since the OnePlus 3 was launched, when it became unreachable for people on a budget, and the price creep has been quite high ever since.

Don’t get me wrong, OnePlus makes good phones, but they are not in the slightest affordable, certainly not anymore. So stop calling them that, unless you are rolling in money. I certainly do wish OnePlus had stuck to their original budget friendly price range, and offered what they could for the price.

There are of course devices which have now taken hold of the place that belonged to the OnePlus One, namely the Poco F1, and perhaps the often overlooked Honor Play.

If these OnePlus 7 Pro leaked prices are true, then it sure is a bold move from the company and we are very interested to see how these prices will fare against the likes of the true giants that are the Samsung Galaxy S10, Google Pixel 3, etc. In case you misseed it the OnePlus 7 launch date is set for May 14th.
