Redmi Note 8 to be powered by MediaTek Helio G90T processor, 18W charger

The Redmi Note 8 processor information has been confirmed ahead of the official announcement. The news comes straight from MediaTek.

Redmi Note 8 processor
The device will be powered by a Helio G90T processor. In case you missed it, the chipset was launched about a month ago. MediaTek’s 12nm SoC has an octa-core CPU cluster which comrises 2 x ARM Cortex-A76 cores and 6 x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.05 GHz.

The chipset is assisted by an ARM Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU clocked at 800 MHz, and has been touted as a gaming processor. The MediaTek Helio G90T can support up to 4 cameras, which can feature a 64MP primary sensor. The processor can be paired with up to 10GB of RAM, and supports displays with a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz.

An official teaser poster from Redmi has confirmed that the upcoming Redmi Note 8 will have an 18W charger in the box, so we can expect some sort of fast charging.

We already know that the device will be equipped with a 64MP camera, that uses a Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor. A couple of camera samples have been posted on Weibo, outling the macro lens and 8K resolution imaging capabilities of the device.

A Redmi Note 8 teaser video also shows a glimpse of the phone, with quad cameras, an LED flash and a fingerprint scanner on the back panel.

It is worth mentioning that Manu Jain, Xiaomi’s Global VP, was present at the launch of the MediaTek Helio G90T, and had said that a phone with the processor would be launched soon. We can expect the same to be confirmed when the Redmi Note 8 is launched on August 29th, in China.

However, we think that may only pertain to China, because Xiaomi is banned from selling phones with a MediaTek processor in India, due to a legal feud with Ericsson. So, we can expect the Redmi Note 8 to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor instead, likely the Snapdragon 665 for the Note 8 and the Snapdragon 712 for the Redmi Note 8 Pro.
