So, you may have gotten the Google Keeps Stopping error on your Android phone’s homescreen. There is no reason to worry, because you are not alone.
It appears that several users around the world are affected by this issue. In fact, one of my phones had the problem too. Guess who turned out to be the culprit? It was none other than the Google app.
That’s right, the latest version of the app seems to be buggy and as a result, the app keeps crashing over and over. On my device, the error kept popping every 3 to 4 seconds.
How to fix the Google Keeps Stopping error
The solution to fix this problem is quite simple.
- Go to Settings > Apps on your phone. You may have to toggle the Show All Apps or Show System Apps option, to make the Google app show up on the list.
2. Tap on the app, and on the next screen, tap on Uninstall Updates. Don’t worry, the Google app is a system app, so it won’t be deleted from your phone. Instead, it will be reverted to an older version.
3. The above step should fix the Google Keeps Stopping error. But, just to be safe, open the Play Store app, and tap the menu. Select the settings and expand the Network Preferences section.
4. Tap the option that says Auto-update apps, and set it to don’t auto-update apps.
That’s it. Since the issue seems to be affecting many users, we expect Google to roll out a bug fix update for the app soon.
