Forget the leaks, Google decided to let the world know what its upcoming flagship phones look like, and revealed the designs of the phone ahead of their launch. This is the first official look at the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

The Pixel 6 has a matte aluminium finish, while the Pixel 6 Pro has a light polished aluminium frame. The phones are equipped with improved camera sensors and lenses, which the company states were too big to fit inside a regular square bump. So instead, a camera bar design was used.

Google Tensor processor

Google is following in Apple’s footsteps, by opting for an in-house processor. The Search Giant has long been rumoured to be working on a chipset codenamed as Whitechapel or GS101 or Google Silicon. The company has finally revealed the official name of the SoC, and it is called the Google Tensor.

Google Tensor Processor

Tensor is a term used in machine learning, and the chipset includes some new security hardware. The Google Pixel 6 will use the Titan M2 security module on it, alongside the previous gen chip for an extra layer of protection.

Google’s decision to use a custom processor should help provide OS updates for a longer time than usual, but whether we will get more than three Android OS upgrades remains a mystery.

Google states that the Tensor will be exclusive to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, so don’t expect devices from other Android OEMs to feature the chipset.

XDA spotted the device on Google’s store page in 8 countries.

When is the Google Pixel 6 launch date?

Google has not mentioned a launch date for the Pixel 6, but has confirmed that the devices will debut this fall, so we can expect the devices to be unveiled around October. The phones are likely to be announced on stage alongside Android 12.
