Issues in the OxygenOS 12 Update for OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro

Shortly after the new firmware was released, users began running into various issues with their devices. The popular app, OxygenUpdater, carried a message that warned users about 5G connectivity not working after updating the phones to Android 12. Wi-Fi MIMO was also reportedly broken in the update. The Phone and Camera apps vanished randomly, further adding to user’s woes.

The 120Hz refresh rate of the phone’s display is reportedly performing inconsistently. As a workaround, users had to modify the settings from time to time, to get it working correctly. The display density, font sizes, were also changed to a smaller setting making it difficult to use.

So, what went wrong? The problems seem to be related to the underlying code, which is based on the new OxygenOS and ColorOS merger. An analysis of the two operating systems, by Android Police shows a lot of similarities between both versions of the software. In other words, it is as users once feared, the comparisons basically confirm that OxygenOS is ColorOS. That is not a good thing, as the latter has poorer quality animations, and the performance of the software is not optimized properly.

Why was the OxygenOS 12 update for OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro is being pulled

Android Police reports that OnePlus has confirmed to the blog that OxygenOS 12 update for OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro has been revoked by the Chinese OEM. The statement says that the company is aware of the issues that have been reported by users, and has suspended the roll-out of the firmware. The brand will release a new version with fixes as soon as possible.

A OnePlus representative has shared the steps to roll back to OxygenOS 11, on the community forums.
