Are you having problems with the front camera on your Xiaomi phone? We ran into a similar issue, here’s how to fix selfie camera not working on Redmi Note 10 Pro.
Xiaomi recently released the MIUI 14 update for the Redmi Note 10 Pro. It brought Android 13 to the device that was launched with Android 11. However, the update has a few bugs.
The rear camera on the device seemed to work fine after installing the MIUI 14 update. But, when we tried to open the selfie camera on our Redmi Note 10 Pro, it would get stuck in a blurred preview of the image from the back camera. Ocassionally it would display an error that said, can’t connect to camera.
After a few days, we tried it again, but the problem didn’t go away even when we reset the camera app’s data and cache, and rebooted the device. However, we accidentally fixed it when tinkering with another app, the culprit was the Google Camera app, commonly known as the GCam mod.
Note: Backup your photos and videos before proceeding.
How to fix selfie camera not working on Redmi Note 10 Pro
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Scroll down to Apps, and tap on it.
3. Tap on Manage apps.
4. Look for the Camera app (the stock app), and clear the camera app’s cache and data.
5. Repeat the step for the Google Camera app (it will also be called Camera, but has a different icon).
6. Try accessing the selfie camera via the stock Camera, Google Camera, or any app like WhatsApp, Telegram, Zoom, etc. It should work now.
Note: The fix seems to be temporary, but it might help you in an emergency. Xiaomi’s Camera app seems to be quite laggy on the latest update, while using the selfie lens. Hopefully the company will fix it in a future release.
Other things to try
How to fix selfie camera not working on Redmi Note 10 Pro if the above steps didn’t work for you? Reboot your phone after clearing the data and cache for the two apps. If that didn’t help, the last thing that you need to do is to take a full backup of your data, and perform a factory reset.
If none of these steps fixed the problem, then it is likely a hardware issue, you will have to take your phone to Xiaomi’s service center and ask them to help you.
We have seen a hardware issue on a second device which didn’t have Gcam on it. This Redmi Note 10 Pro unit’s selfie camera would display blurry preview images. The problem prevented us from using the phone to take pictures of text content, scanning QR codes, etc. Changing the zoom level would display a normal preview, as it switches to the ultra-wide angle lens.
