The Google Pixel 8 camera specs have been leaked along with the Pixel 8 Pro’s optical set-up. This year’s flagship phones from the Search giant gain various improvements in the photography department.
Google Pixel 8 camera specs leaked
The leaked Google Pixel 8 camera specs sheet tells us that the primary sensor, which was a Samsung ISOCELL GN1, is being replaced with an ISOCELL GN2, to allow for up to 35% more light to be captured. This will produce brighter images in low-light conditions, and also helps improve the camera’s shutter speeds in order to reduce blur.
The Google Pixel 8 camera specs indicate that the upcoming phone will support Staggered HDR, which reduces the delay between frames captured in HDR mode. This in turn will speed up the image capturing process and reduces ghosting. The ultrawide camera on the phone will be similar to the Pixel 6, i.e. it will have a Sony IMX 386 sensor, but with a slightly wider lens and 0.55x zoom ratio. The selfie lens on the handset will use a 11 MP Samsung 3J1 sensor, which was previously equipped in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
The Google Pixel 8 is said to be powered by its next-gen chipset, the Tensor G3. The processor supports recording 8K videos at 30 frames per second, the ISOCELL GN2 also supports the high resolution motion capture. But, according to Android Authority, this feature will not be available on the Pixel 8.
The phone will also support Segmentation AWB to split the scene into different parts with the help of AI, and process the segments in the image. It may also improve the Cinematic Mode with video bokeh blur level selection. The LED flash on the Pixel 8 will support adaptive torch, to adjust the intensity of the light dynamically based on the ambient light, to prevent overexposed shots and also to improve low-light photography.
Rumored Google Pixel 8 Pro camera specs
Google is giving the Pixel 8 Pro a similar treatment. The Mountain View company is ditching the 12 megapixels Sony IMX 386 sensor in favor of the Pixel 7a’s 64 megapixels Sony IMX 787. This will help the Pixel 8 Pro capture better ultrawide photos, and it is also said to provide a slightly higher zoom at 0.56x Zoom. The telephoto lens (Samsung GM5, 48 MP, 5x zoom) and selfie lens (Samsung 3J1, 11MP) on the device are identical to the Pixel 7 Pro’s. However, the upcoming flagship mobile may not support Macro Mode.
While the Pixel 8 will use the VL53L1 Time-of-flight (ToF) sensor, the Pixel 8 Pro has a new 8×8 ToF VL53L8 sensor to assist the autofocus. Meanwhile the thermometer sensor that was leaked earlier, is not a thermal sensor. It is a Melexis MLX90632 sensor that can be used for measuring the body temperature and that of other surfaces.
