Is your web browser reloading tabs every time you switch to it from a different app? MIUI is infamous for killing tasks in the name of battery life. Let us show you how to set an app to auto-start in MIUI.
Now, you may be wondering how this would solve the problem. It’s quite simple really, because what we are about to do will allow your app to run in the background.
This can be very helpful in situations like where you are logging into your account on a website in the mobile browser, and have to enter a 2FA code. But when you switch to your authenticator app and back to the browser, the page would have reloaded, requiring you to enter the username and password again. By whitelisting the app from MIUI’s task killing habits, you take control of the app, and let it stay in its current state in the background.
How to set an app to auto-start in MIUI
1. Go to the MIUI Settings page, scroll down and tap on Apps.
2. Tap on Permissions > Background autostart.
3. MIUI will list all apps that are installed on your phone. All you need to do is tap on the toggle next to the app that you want to allow, and that’s it.
4. You should also disable battery optimization for the app, so MIUI doesn’t close it automatically. To do this, just long-press on the app’s icon on the home screen and select app info and tap on Battery Saver, and set it to “No restrictions”.
Note: This could cause your battery to drain faster, so it’s up to you to decide whether to use these settings or not.
