According to a report, the team behind the AdBlock Plus browser add-on, is working on their browser for Android.
If you have used Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome on a computer, you will be familiar with ABP extension.
It blocks advertisements on almost all websites, and helps save precious data/bandwidth, while also improving page loading times on the browser. It also helps prevents malwares from malicious ads.
AdBlock Plus was available as a separate app on the Google Play Store, but the Mountain View company removed all ad-blocking apps. Google relies on ads for revenue, so the move wasn’t surprising. But you can still install AdBlock Plus for Android from the official website. But using it as a stand alone app comes at a price, it consumes RAM and also a tiny portion of your battery life.
AdBlock Plus add-on is available for the mobile version of Mozilla Firefox, but it is not available for Chrome, since Google’s browser for Android still doesn’t support extensions. It’s 2015! Please move out from under the rock Google!
Now coming back to the news at hand, apparently this isn’t their (ABP’s) first attempt at building a browser. They tried to build one for iOS in 2013, but it came to no avail. The AdBlock Plus Android browser, will use the Chromium rendering engine, which is used by most browsers.
AdBlock Plus will reportedly launch their new browser for Android on May 20th.
