Online Retailing Giant, Amazon, are reported to be working on launching their own smartphone.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon will be announcing the phone this June, with a release date set for September. The phone is believed to have a display which would render 3-D images which can be seen without using any special glasses. It uses a retina-tracking technology embedded with four front-facing cameras, to create 3-D images like a hologram. The incorporation of the 3-D technology in the mobile suggests that it could be a gaming device. Amazon has contacted Japan Display, who manufacture the displays for Apple’s iPhones, to work on their new phone’s display.
Reports suggests that Amazon has already been showcasing the phone to a limited audience, comprising of app and software developers, and the like. Amazon is apparently preparing to stock a huge number of these handsets, after informing one of its suppliers. The numer of units expected to be manufactured is estimated to be a whopping 600,000.
Amazon already sells several devices of its own such as, the Kindle Tablets, and the recently unveiled Fire TV set-top box, so it would be interesting to see them enter the mobile market, which is currently dominated by Apple and Samsung.
