The Android 13 update for Nothing Phone 1 may not be available this year. This has been the topic of discussion among users on social media for the past few days.
Google released Android 13 about a week ago, and many OEMs have begun working on updating their devices to the new version. Normally, it takes a month or two before manufacturers provide the update for flagship phones, while mid-range devices take longer to receive the new software.
Given the price of the Nothing Phone 1, users may expect a premium experience. The issue regarding the Androud 13 update began when a user asked the founder of Nothing Tech, Carl Pei, when the next major OS update would be available for the device. Pei replied to it in a nonchalant manner to say that “A product is more than just its specs, features, and version numbers”.

That didn’t answer the user’s question, and instead raised doubts about the company’s software support for the phone. Nothing released a statement to Android Authority to confirm that the Android 13 update for Nothing Phone 1 will be released in the first half of 2023, i.e. June 203.
That is quite a long timeline. The company will release a beta version of Nothing OS in the meantime, to ensure that the software doesn’t have bugs.
This isn’t the first controversy surrounding the device. The company had originally advertised that the Nothing Phone 1 supports a peak brightness level of 1,200 nits. However, the brand edited the information in the mobile’s specs sheet to say it only supports a maximum brightness of 700 nits. The company explained that the decision was made with regard to battery consumption and heating.
Last week, the Nothing Phone 1 got a price hike of Rs. 1,000 in India. The phone now costs Rs. 33,999 for the 8GB/128GB model, while the 8GB/256GB trim costs Rs. 36,999. The top-end version with 12GB/256GB carries a price tag of Rs. 39,999.
