Asus launched their third generation of Zenfone devices i.e. Zenfone 3 in August 2016 which were powered by Zen UI 3.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based operating system. Asus already rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update to Zenfone 3 devices a few months back and now they have started to roll out Android 8.0 (Oreo) OTA update to these devices. This rollout means that the company is serious about offering major Android updates even to its old devices and this is the second major Android update on Zenfone 3 even after the device is at least 18 months old.
The Release notes of Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update reveals the following:
- Software update to Android 8.0 Oreo. Internal storage will decrease slightly after the update, suggest to backup data and relocate media file (pictures & video clip) to SD card to reserve at least 1.5GB storage before starting the software update.
- Swipe up to All apps: After OS upgrade, launcher has some important changes- swipe up to all apps, all app icon could be changed.
- More friendly setting UI design
- Remove the following applications: Minimovie, photocollage, do it later.
The Android 8.0 Oreo OTA Update is rolling out to the following ZenFone 3 models
- ZE520KL
- ZE552KL
If you look at the model number above, you will know that the first model number ZE520KL specifies the 5.2-inch variant while the second model number specifies the 5.5-inch variant of Zenfone 3.
