If you own any of the Android One devices and have waited to get a taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop, here is some good news for you.Even though we still don’t have any official date on When the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update will arrive for Android One devices; thanks to XDA developer Varun.chitre15, we now have an almost working unofficial CyanogenMod 12 (based on Android 5.0 Lollipop) Port for these devices. The CyanogenMod 12 (based on Android 5.0 Lollipop) Port or ROM is yet in Beta stage, hence is far from being stable and comes with few bugs and crashes too.
What Works and what not
- almost everything except the ‘Internet on SIM2’ and ‘Bluetooth’.
- You need to use MX Player with SW decoder mode as Hardware Video decoding is buggy and hence videos won’t play. This also results in problems while Youtube videos being played on device and if you try to use video recording on camera.
This CyanogenMod 12 build works with the entire line of Android One devices i.e.
- Micromax Canvas A1,
- Karbonn Sparkle V, and
- Spice Dream Uno.
As CyanogenMod 12 itself is a work in progress and even the official binaries for Android 5.0 Lollipop for Android One devices are yet to be rolled out, hence it may take a while to fix everything on this CM 12 port.
Checkout some of the screenshots below.
At the moment, the ROM works only if you use Philz recovery to flash the ROM zip file.
If you want to install this CyanogenMod 12 Port (unofficial) on your Android One device, just head over to XDA thread (link below) for install instructions and file links.
Do share some feedback if you decide to flash this.
