Google will be rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to Android One phones by January 2015.
The announcement comes from the CEO of Spice Mobility, Prashant Bindal, in an interview with India Today.
This is what he had to say:
“We plan to provide Lollipop in our Android One devices around January 2015 and the update will be available for all Dream Uno users in India.”
Spice is the manufacturer of the Dream Uno. The other two Android One devices are the Micromax A1 and the Karbonn Sprakle V. Since all three devices share the same internal hardware, it is likely that the OTA update will be rolled out to all three of them at the same time.
Sources within the company have said that the update is ready, and it is possible that the OTA rollout could begin in mid-December. However, Google is infamous for it’s slow update rollouts, so it is not surprising that Bindal has mentioned January as a safe deadline.
