It appears that the rumours about the ASUS going mid-range for its 2016 flagship phones could be false. A new benchmark on AnTuTu reveals that at least one ASUS Zenfone 3 will run on the latest and greatest chipset from Qualcomm.
The above image (courtesy Kristi and Weibo), shows that the Zenfone 3 with a model number ASUS Z016D is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, along with 4GB of RAM. The GPU is an Adreno 530, while the internal storage is 32GB. It is unclear if it will have an expandable memory option.
The Zenfone 3 supposedly has a 1080p Full HD Display, and runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, likely with a lighter version of ZenUI, as we have seen in the recently released Zenfone 2 Laser Marshmallow Update, which debloated the device.
In the photography department, the ASUS Zenfone 3 has a 23 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front camera for selfies. We speculate that these will feature ASUS’ Pixelmaster technology, and probably Laser Auto-Focus, like its predecessor had.
The ASUS Zenfone 3 is scheduled to be launched on May 30th, 2016, which is just over two weeks away. On a sidenote, ASUS will be launching another device on May 23rd in India.
