ASUS will be launching its flagship phone series, the Zenfone 3, in India later today. But it appears that someone let the cat out of the bag about the device’s pricing.
And that someone happens to be the online retail store, Snapdeal. The listing says that the ASUS Zenfone 3 has been priced at Rs 21999.
Now, we don’t believe that this is the final price of the phone, and here is why.We have tested and reviewed many ASUS devices in the past, and all of them have been priced very aggressively in India. This is usually done in respect to the device’s technical specifications, which in this case happens to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 variant, aka the lowest of the three Zenfone 3 models. It is unlikely that a device with a mediocre chipset will be priced that high, in India.
And this is backed by the fact that the Zenfone 3 costs just about Rs 17000 ($249) in China.
The ASUS Zenfone 3’s main rivals will be the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the OnePlus 3 which retail for Rs 24,999 and Rs 27,999 respectively. If ASUS’ sensibility in pricing continues, and with the leaked price tag in mind, we are speculating that this merely a dummy pricing to prevent leaks, ahead of the launch scheduled for 4 PM today.
AndroidPure will be present at the launch event and will bring you the latest updates as and when they are announced, Stay tuned to the blog for more.
