Just now, we reported that Android 4.4 Kitkat update is rolling out for Zenfone 4. It seems that this update is also rolling out for other devices. At the moment, we can confirm it for ASUS Zenfone 5. ASUS support page has already listed the update for Zenfone 5 and the update zip file is available for download along with instructions on how to update your Zenfone 5 to Android 4.4 Kitkat from existing Android 4.3 Jellybean.
The support page lists Version V2.19.40.6(TW) firmware for ASUS ZenFone 5(T00F/T00J) with software Image: V2.19.40.6 for TW SKU only (Please make sure update software version V1.18.40.10 first before update to software version V2.19.40.6) The listing is dated 2014.10.01 i.e today. We can see that this firmware update file is for Taiwanese version only and hence zenfone 5 users may need to wait a bit more before it is rolled out to them too.
The update log tells us that this update comes with Android 4.4 kitkat along with improved Miracast compatibility, added support for DLNA protocol and Russian translation fix. Aprt from these, it adds some new features such as:
- Do Not Disturb mode
- Call Guard(applies to models sold in China and Taiwan only)
- Full dual standby with two SIM cards(applies to dual SIM models only)
- Filter effects for videos
- Reply via Call-in SIM card, system will auto select the right phone
If you want you can download the update from ASUS support page here (Keep in mind to check your version before downloading and updating, as at the moment it is only available for Taiwanese ). The update file size is 741.02 MB.
The update hopefully will be rolling out to everyone soon including users in India.
