Much awaited BlackBerry Messenger BBM is finally coming to Android on September 21 for android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean i.e Android 4.x. The BBM service has been widely speculated about by the blogs and portals all over the web. This BBM release date is announced officially through the Blackberry blog and hence you can treat this date as final.
Even though there are loads of Instant messaging apps available on the Android platform some of the popular ones being Whatsapp and Line, this entry of BBM into Android along with iOS breaking the exclusivity of the Blackberry platform is interesting.
But perhaps this may be too late for the blackberry as both Android and iOS have come a long way leaving far behind the Blackberry platform and its devices. We will keep tracking how it evolves and performs in comparison with existing instant messaging apps.
BBM for Android features:
BBM Chat – Enjoy real, immediate conversations with friends on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones.
Share files and Voice: – With BBM you can share files on your phone such as photos and voice notes, all in an instant.
Group Chat – Multi-person chats (up to 30 friends)
Broadcast Message: – you can send a message out to all your BBM contacts at once.
Unique PIN – Every BBM user has a unique PIN that maintains your privacy, so you don’t have to give out your phone number or email address to a new or casual contact.
Availability
BBM for Android will be available as a free download for smartphones running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean (Android 4.x) only beginning at 7 AM EDT on September 21. Perhaps devices running lower versions of Android like Gingerbread (Android 2.3) won’t be getting the BBM for Android app.
