Cortana for Android, Microsoft’s alternative to Google Now just got better.
The app which is available in beta form for users in the US, now supports the popular phrase, Hey Cortana!
You will have to enable it from the app’s settings menu. Once enabled, the voice command works similar to OK Google!, but there is a catch. Cortana’s voice command will only work if the device is an unlocked state.
I managed to get hold of the APK and try it. It does work, but only partially. It didn’t work well, even when I repeated the phrase many times, even though once Cortana is open, she recognises my voice and what I say.
So I’d definitely say there are problems with waking up Cortana.
If you reside in the US, you can download Cortana for free from Google Play. To do so join the beta test program, and then get the app from the Play Store.
The version I tried is Cortana 1.0.0.289.
