A few weeks ago, we published an article on “How To Install Omni Rom Android 4.3 on Samsung Galaxy S Advance“.
Now we have more good news, you can now get the Chocolaty goodness of Android KitKat thanks to Team Canjica.
While we await for an official Android 4.4 firmware update from Samsung, which I believe may not happen, there is no reason why you should not try the CyanogenMod 11ROM which has been released.
Now you can’t just flash it like a regular rom, follow the instructions below.

How to Install Cyanogen Mod 11 on the S Advance:
- First you need to download an app called “UNIVERSAL KERNEL FLASHER“. (Filename ukf20)
- Download and install it on your phone.
- Now download the ROM file “TCmacHybrid.zip” and place a copy of it to your SD CARD.
- Download the GAPPS file and copy it to your SD CARD.
- Use any archive extractor to extract Boot.IMG from the downloaded ROM file. Copy the file to your SD CARD.
- Now Open UKF on your phone, and flash the boot image.
- Boot to recovery and flash the ROM file, and then flash the GAPPs file.
- Reboot the device.
Note: I have linked to the CORE GAPPS as you need odexed apps for ART.
How to enable ART (Android Run Time):
Now that the device has rebooted, we can switch the cache from Dalvik to ART.
First we need to enable “Developer Options”. Go to System Settings> About Phone and tap on the build number 7 times.
Tap the back button and you should now see the Developer Options. Tap on it, scroll all the way down until you see “Select Runtime”, and should say Dalvik. Tap on it and select ART, the device will reboot.
It will take a few minutes for the phone to boot as it is rebuilding the cache. It took around 8 minutes for my phone to reboot after enabling ART.
Warning: Do not use the Xposed framework, as it will reset the device’s cache to Dalvik. This is because, the framework is based on Dalvik. Some apps like Whatsapp also switch the cache to dalvik, Google for a modded version which supports ART.
Bugs and my usage feedback:
I have been using the ROM for a few days, here are the bugs which the developers have listed at XDA.
OMX and Camera.
Magnetic Sensor -> Compass not working properly.
NFC (GT-I9070P users Only).
Besides these, there is one other bug. Sometimes, the Wifi toggle does not work. Rebooting the device fixes the issue.
Regarding OMX, aka Open MAX Media acceleration, HD videos are not playing well in this ROM. You could try selecting the software player in Dice Player or MX Player, but they will have some framerate issues. YouTube videos are not working well, as they are pixelated. There is no option for screencast yet, so we will have to wait for them to fix OMX issues. The Camera and the flash work, but the picture colors are not very sharp.
Games work fine in this ROM. I have tested the latest versions of Asphalt 8 (on medium graphics), FIFA 14, Plants vs Zombies 2, amongst notable ones. I found no lags, or bugs whatsoever.
No random reboots either (on ART).
The battery life is not as good as it was in OmniROM, but then CyanogenMod has always been a bit of a battery drainer for me.
To enable screenshot:
Go to Settings> Buttons > Power Menu and select the Screenshot option.
Now you can take a screenshot of your screen by pressing the power button and selecting screenshot.
