HeroCraft Games has released a new title for Android devices, called Dead Shell: Roguelike RPG. Though the name says “rogue-like”, the game does not feel like one, because the levels were too easy when we tested it.
It is more of a rogue-lite, which lets you retain some skills or items upon death. For those unaware a rogue-like is a game which involves dungeon crawling, procedurally generated levels and more importantly permadeath and turn based gameplay.
Dead Shell is more like a rogue-lite (unconfirmed as my merc has not died), like Rogue Legacy, a game which I play on my PC alongside Spelunky, and a few other modern “rogue-likes”. That being said, Dead Shell is enjoyable thanks to its modern arsenal of weapons (axes, chainsaw, machine guns and more) , a reasonably good reward system, and the variety of mercenaries in the game. You can level up characters, and clearing a level involves exploring rooms, fighting monsters, collecting loot, and the exit.
