ES File Explorer, is a name that won’t soon be forgotten amongst Android users.
The file manager app is renowned for its root functionality, and its multi purpose tools, such as viewing images, playing media, text editor, archive creation and opening and more.
But all of that is in the dust now, as ES File Explorer has added some bloatware to the app. It has begun spamming users with notifications which recommend the users to clean the device. Smells a bit fishy, or should I say like Cheetah Mobile?.
Word on Reddit, is that ES File Explorer 4.0.2.3 is the last good version of the app, so if you have that, do not update to the latest version.
This is the fourth app to go the wrong way in recent times, after Quick Pic, CPU-Z (which added full screen ads and IAPs to remove them) and of course Pushbullet, which locked its most useful features behind a ridiculously overpriced paywall. We have been using Solid Explorer since it was in alpha form a few years ago, and though it is a premium file manager, do give it a shot.

It costs about $2 and comes in two forms. A classic app, which I prefer, and one with a Material Design. You only need to buy the unlocker once to use it for either version of the app.
