Mozilla has released Firefox 112 for Android devices. The latest version of the mobile browser adds a much requested feature, pull to refresh.
The gesture is quite common in other mobile browsers and apps, but has been unavailable in Firefox’s Android version until now. Mozilla had been testing the feature in the Nightly and Beta channels of the app for a long time, before introducing it to the stable channel yesterday.
How to use pull to refresh in Firefox for Android
1. Open any web page.
2. Make a swipe down gesture, i.e. place your finger on the screen and pull it down.
3. This will trigger the refresh page action, and a small circle with an arrow icon will rotate near the top of the screen.
If you want to disable the gesture, go to Firefox’s Settings > Customize > and toggle the option that says Pull to refresh.
Other changes in Firefox 112
Firefox 112 for Android ships with some more changes. The app now lets users decide whether they want to open links in other apps. The setting is disabled by default, and can be turned on from the Settings > Open links in apps page. You may configure it to never prompt for opening links, or ask before opening a link, or always open links in an app of your choice.
The release notes for the Firefox 112 update for Android states that it fixes an issue that was preventing 10-bit videos from playing in the browser. YouTube videos in full screen mode should now play correctly, and no longer switch to portrait mode when you select a different quality or change the playback speed.
The zoom function now supports 100% zoom out on small pages. The update changes the size of small buttons that were difficult to use on mobile phones. Mozilla has fixed an issue related to geolocation timeouts in Firefox.
Download Firefox 112 for Android from the Google Play Store. The browser still does not support installation of all extensions from Mozilla’s add-on repository, or from third party sources. The only way to get extensions that you like is by creating a custom add-on collection and using it in the Firefox Beta or Nightly Channels.
