Just yesterday, we reported that Google is not going to provide upgrade of Android 4.4 Kitkat for Samsung Galaxy Nexus device and we also mentioned that developers at XDA are going to bring a Android 4.4 Kitkat ROM for the device soon. Looks like its already happening at day 1. First 4.4 Kitkat Galaxy Nexus AOSP ROM has already appeared on XDA, developed by XDA member Grarak. This is an initial build and even though most of things are working, there are yet many things that are not working. Initially the sensors and Camera were not working, but they are fixed in the latest release.
As you can see from the screenshot below, the graphics glitches are there and they need to be fixed. Hopefully the developer community will be able to nail it down soon. Also, the ROM is just the alpha build which obviously comes with load of bugs, un-stablity, force closures etc. and you are advised not to even to try it on your Galaxy Nexus unless you are a developer and know what you are doing.
Not Working
- Wifi
- Graphic glitches (Screenshots, Recent menu, Rotation)
Obviously there is much more that needs to be done before the ROM is ready for daily use, but its a good start and good news for Galaxy Nexus users.
