Gionee has announced its Make in India plan, and becomes the second Chinese OEM, after Xiaomi, to manifacture phones in India.
Gionee says it will invest a whopping $50 Million over the next three years to make its phones in India.
Delhi-NCR based Dixon Technologies, and Foxconn which is based in Andhra Pradesh will be the OEM’s partners. Foxconn will manufacture Gionee’s F series and P Series phones, from the existing lineup of the company’s phones. Dixon on the other hand will manufacture feature phones and other smartphones for Gionee.
The production of the phones will start in October, in both plants, and will be making over 1.2 Million phones per month. Gionee says it will invest more for Research & Development of its software, in India, to improve its Amigo UI, which is the default OS of its phones.
