This April marks the 9th birthday of everyone’s favorite email service, Gmail.
Did you know what was the inspiration for creating Gmail? It wasn’t created out of curiosity. Gmail was inspired by a user’s feedback based on other mail services.Yes it is unbelievable but it is true. Apparently, there was a user who complained that she was struggling to find emails buried deep in her inbox. So, Google created an email service with a powerful search engine. Thus was born Gmail. You can read more about it here.
Gmail was launched on April 1, 2004 and it came out as an invite only beta. Well, that explains Google’s tradition of invite only betas, which still continues, right down to Ingress.
