Yes it is official, Google have launched their first Nexus device in India.
This is a surprise after Eric Schmidt’s recent visit to our Country, he even apologized for the non-availability of the Nexus devices.A look at the Play Store’s homepage said it all, the devices tab was active and proudly displaying the Nexus 7 for sale in India.
The 16gb version will cost you around 15999 Rs. If you think it is overpriced, you are not alone. Schmidt himself had said that their products are priced higher than what they should be in India.
And I agree with him. I think that the wi-fi only model should be available for a cheaper price. I bought mine online last year for around 17000 rs which may have covered the Customs duty for the seller too.

The timing is perfect, as Google have put up the Nexus 7 16GB for sale in Google Play Store India. Frankly I am not that surprised, as Google launched their Books service in India. Let’s hope that they launch their other services soon, and hopefully bring the Nexus 4 at a cheaper price.
